Martin Flawed’s and Selam Kidane’s Embezzled Report

By Teweldeberhan Gebre

Martin, a born fascist, hides behind a handful diaspora outfits in different names. Martin lacks ethics and professionalism. Recently, Martin and his foster child, Selam Kidane, posted an article “the famine the Eritrean government doesn’t want you to know about” in his blog, https://martinplaut.wordpress.com.   Continue reading

By Teweldeberhan Gebre In the last couple of days, Dutch news agencies were busy reporting on the intended and controversial YPFDJ annual conference planned to be held in the Dutch city of Veldhoven. The meeting was banned by Veldhoven’s mayor for fear of public disorder after police reportedly arrested 128 protesters. Continue reading

Mass Migration of Eritreans Is Not Entirely Due to ‘Pull’ Factors

cropped-2121By Teweldeberhan Gebre

Some Eritreans still struggle to distinguish the difference between Eritrea as a State and its poor leadership. Hence, for them criticizing the policies of the administration amounts damaging the image of Eritrea. Of course, the Eritrean regime has, for the last 25 or more years, been disapproving any critique of its misguided economic, social and political policies. For the regime in Eritrea critiquing its policies is an act of treason against the Eritrean State. Equating rational behavior and critique of citizens with treason is not exclusive to the Eritrean leadership but the typical behavior of all authoritarian regimes.  Continue reading

Eritrean Farmers Subjected to Land Lease in the Name of Farm Income Tax Regime

cropped-2121By Teweldeberhan Gebre

Background

On 2 December 2016, the Government of Eritrea (GoE) issued a proclamation, Proclamation No. 178/2016 on farm income and livestock taxation (ግብሪ ካብ ኣታዊ ሕርሻ ገጠርን እንስሳ ዘቤትን), that replaced Proclamation No. 63/1994. The proclamation has entered into force on 1 December 2016. Issuing numerous legal notices, decrees, orders, and proclamations are things national and sub-national authorities can do to manage their affairs when they are in government. Continue reading

Why Is Eritrea Impoverished and Isolated?

cropped-2121By Teweldeberhan Gebre

Eritreans have been subjected to systematic poverty and injustice under their government for the last two and half decades. The very government that liberated the country from the Ethiopian invaders and their East-West sponsors is now the real oppressor of its people. It is not only an embarrassment but also a humiliation to the very Eritrean values of hard work and resilience. In Eritrea, poverty is state driven, and state instigated with the ultimate goal and greed to hold onto political power by controlling the people’s economic, social and political lives. Eritrea: Beyond the ‘No Forced Returns’ of Migration Policy?

cropped-2121By Teweldeberhan Gebre

Introduction

Since the ‘no peace, no war’ situation has been set by the inept regime in Ethiopia and its sponsors in the State Department, Eritrea has faced significant exodus of its youth. Unfortunately, many have lost their life in the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea in a bid to cross into Europe for a better life, and many became victims of human traffickers in the Sinai Peninsula as well. First Saudi Then Qatar Bigwigs to Ethiopia in Just Three Days Difference

asmarahutWhat is that inevitable for Eritrea?

By Teweldeberhan Gebre

According to Ahram Online Qatar’s foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani is in Ethiopia to meet “with Ethiopian president, prime minister and foreign minister to discuss the latest regional and international developments”. This is happening in just three days after the high-level delegation led by Ahmed Al-Khateeb, senior advisor to the Saudi royal court and board chairman of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has concluded its official visit to meet Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn in Addis Ababa and the ‘unplanned’ visitation to the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam. Ethiopia Should Withdraw from the Eritrean Territory it is Illegally Occupying

dr-ahmed-hassen-dehliMany things have gone unnoticed about Eritrea but this is a serious one. On the 8th of October 2016 Dr. Ahmed Hassen Dehli, the Director of the Eritrean Center for Strategic Study, has sent a serious message to Ethiopia and the world that Eritrea is going to exercise its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations charter against the occupier, Ethiopia.

By Dr. Ahmed Hassen Dehli

Ethiopia has occupied illegally Eritrean sovereign territory, including Badme, as of April 13, 2002, namely, the date the final and binding decision of the Eritrea-Ethiopia Border Commission (EEBC) was pronounced, in violation of international laws and agreements, as well as the decision of the EEBC. Can Germany’s New ‘Marshall Plan’ for Africa Be Successful in Eritrea?

asmarahutBy Teweldeberhan Gebre

Introduction

On 11 November 2016, Reuters reported that Chancellor Angela Merkel and her officials, out of concern on the influx of migrants to Europe, have announced a ‘Marshall Plan’ for Africa through “…pushing for increased public and private investment in Africa.” Following the announcement of the ‘Marshal Plan for Africa’ the news went viral across major news agencies. A ‘Marshall Plan’ also known as the European Recovery Program, named after the then US Secretary of State George Marshall, was an American initiative to rebuild Western European economies devastated as a result of the World War II (WWII). To What Can We Compare Eritrea’s Opposition?

minister-yemaneBy Teweldeberhan Gebre

Mr. Brian Hayes, a member of the European parliament (MEP) who is also a member of the European Parliament’s Development Committee, has hosted a conference in Brussels on the future development of Eritrea on Monday, 28 November 2016. Eritrea’s Information, Minister Yemane Gebremeskel, was one of the speakers, also joined by Ms. Christine Umutoni (UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Representative in Eritrea) and John Weakliam, CEO of VITA (my old friend) from Eritrea. Mr. Hayes initiative to engage and engaging Eritrea must be welcomed and praised. Unfortunately, some of the so called opposition who are less interested to see their people escaping out of the horrible poverty didn’t have doubt to publicly denounce the initiative by Mr. Hayes. Their behaviour reminds me the Biblical saying by the Lord, Jesus Christ, when He said:   Continue reading
